North Smithfield Music Mission Statement The North Smithfield Music Department is committed to engaging and challenging all students in a rigorous K-12 Music curriculum to develop artistically educated individuals through the integration of performing, creating, and responding in music. This pursuit of excellence through music develops a life-long appreciation of music and the arts and encourages students to become confident and effective advocates for the arts community.
PHILOSOPHY In North Smithfield, we believe the Music Program will:
Establish clear and high expectations aligned to Rhode Island Grade Span Expectations for Music that includes: artistic process, cultural context, communication and aesthetics
Differentiate instruction by varying content, process, and authentic products.
Utilize technology to personalize and enhance student learning and support effective teaching.
Encourage students to become confident and effective communicators, problem solvers, and life-long learners.
Develop life-long appreciation of the arts and their contribution to everyday life.
Provide a safe and nurturing environment for creative experimentation and risk-taking.
Provide interdisciplinary connections/learning experiences.
Encourage students to become confident and effective advocates for the arts and active members of the arts community.
