North Smithfield Physical Education Mission Statement
The North Smithfield School Department is committed to engaging and challenging all students in a rigorous K-12 Physical Education curriculum.  It is driven by research-based best practice instruction and assessment in order to develop physically educated individuals through the integration of movement concepts, responsibility, and achievement of life-long physical fitness.
 
PHILOSOPHY
 In North Smithfield, we believe the Physical Education Program will: 
  • Establish clear and high expectations aligned to Rhode Island Physical Education Standards.
  • Provide high quality standards-based instruction for students, using best practices, analysis of available data, and a variety of assessment strategies.
  • Encourage students to become self-directed and physically fit individuals.  
  • Provide opportunities to develop multiple strategies for problem solving, goal setting, and decision-making to enhance health.
  • Encourage students to recognize/participate in a wide range of community –based programs that contribute to a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • Provide students with the opportunities and resources to understand concepts and to develop the physical skills needed to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle.
